New Springfield Federal Courthouse
Coast and Harbor was the Owner’s Project Manager for the new $55 million, 160,000 sq. ft., LEED Silver federal courthouse designed by Moshe Safdie located in Springfield, Massachusetts. This project involved sophisticated MEP and security systems.
Project Highlights
The new courthouse includes four courtrooms with expansion potential for one more. This facility, designed by world renowned architect Moshe Safdie, also houses holding cells, underground parking, and offices for the US Marshal, the US Attorney, and the local US Representative. Significant features of the courthouse include:
- A crescent-shaped building design, spiraling around historic trees
- An entry pavilion leading to a curved colonnade
- A grand staircase leading to the courtrooms
- Judges’ chambers housed in a parsonage-like annex
- Extensive landscaping
